Floyd Simmons

(photographs are courtesy of the Carteret County Historical /society—Simmons collection)

Simmons served as a hunting and fishing guide during the 20s and 30s using at times either Ocracoke, Portsmouth or Beacon Island (in Pamlico sound) as his base.  In the mid-30s, he established the Edgewater Club in Morehead City.  A hunting/fishing camp at Cape Lookout was added as a resource for guests.

At Portsmouth, he used the Gilgo house as base.

Simmons used his “Flying Dolphan” to take guests to hunting adventures.
