Roy began, later, producing family photos to be sent to soldiers off to the war effort. Dec. 17, 1942, the Beaufort News reported Eubank’s induction at Ft. Bragg into the Army Air Corp–they put his photographic skills to use–he rose to the rank of Sgt.

After the war, being a veteran brought him the benefit of allowing him to purchase the Portsmouth Lifesaving Station–along with several acres of property-at a favorable price. He marketed, initially, the station as a vacation venue but apparently later chose to lease the station to Charlie Vellines (for 1 dollar a year–as told by locals).

Roy was an active Rotarian, the official photographer for the Coastal Festival since inception (Morehead Chamber of Commerce), the National Youth Administration (the program supported by he and Lucy both), covered the state G.O.P. meetings, participated in the Beaufort Civil Protection program, contributed to Life Magazine and American Magazine, helped found Beaufort Men’s Club sponsored by St. Pauls parish and his photography skills were sought regionally.

Roy Eubanks is integral to the story of the southern outer banks because of his relationship with the Portsmouth L.S.S., but also because he documented the Downeast and Banks culture in his photography. Examples of this are his photos of the early Core Banks Club, the Lifesaving Station, guide Ammie Willis and likely much more. Unfortunately, the repository of his archives are unknown currently.
